Chore Tracking
The Chore Tracking feature helps parents and kids keep track of completed chores over time. This optional feature can be enabled on a per-child basis and provides a visual way to see chore completion patterns.
Enabling Chore Tracking
As a parent, you can enable chore tracking for each child individually:
- Navigate to the Chores tab in the dashboard
- Toggle the "Enable Chore Tracking" switch to turn the feature on
- Three default chores will be automatically created: "Clean room", "Clean playroom", and "Empty dishwasher"
Once enabled, the Chores tab will display the full chore tracking interface for parents, while kids will see a simplified read-only view.
Defining Chores
Parents can manage the list of available chores using the Define Chores button:
Adding Chores
Click "Add Chore" and enter a name for the new chore. Each chore is automatically assigned a unique color that will be used in charts and reports.
Editing Chores
Click the Edit button next to any chore to rename it. The chore's history and color will be preserved.
Reordering Chores
Click the "Reorder Chores" button to drag and drop chores into your preferred order. This order will be used when filing chore reports.
Tip: The reorder feature works on both touch screens and with a mouse!
Archiving Chores
If you no longer want to use a particular chore but want to keep its historical data, click Archive. Archived chores:
- Won't appear when filing new reports
- Are still visible in past reports
- Are still counted in historical chart data
- Can be unarchived at any time
To view archived chores, check the "Show Archived" toggle at the bottom of the Define Chores modal.
Deleting Chores
Click Delete to permanently remove a chore and all of its associated data. This action cannot be undone.
Filing Chore Reports
When your child completes chores, you can file a report using the File Chore Report button:
- Select the date the chores were completed (defaults to today)
- Check the box next to each chore that was completed
- Optional: Check "Extra Chores" and describe any additional tasks that aren't in your regular chore list
- Click Submit Report
You can file multiple reports for the same day if needed. The chart will automatically show the cumulative total.
Editing Reports
Each report in the ledger has Edit and Delete buttons. You can modify the date, change which chores were completed, or update the extra chores note.
The Chore Chart
The stacked area chart shows chore completion over time:
- Horizontal axis (bottom): Date
- Vertical axis (left): Number of times each chore was completed
- Colored layers: Each chore has its own color, making it easy to see which chores are done most often
- Gray layer: Represents "Extra Chores" when completed
Chart Views
Toggle between two time periods:
- 3 Months: Shows the last 3 months of data (default)
- All Time: Shows the complete chore history
The chart's legend automatically adjusts to show only chores that were completed during the selected time period.
The Chore Report Ledger
Below the chart, you'll find a complete history of all filed chore reports. Each row shows:
- Date: When the chores were completed
- Chores: List of all chores marked as done on that date
- Extra Chores: Any additional tasks that were completed (if noted)
- Actions: Edit or Delete buttons for parents
Pagination
Like the transaction ledger, you can control how many reports are displayed:
- 10: Show 10 reports per page
- 100: Show 100 reports per page
- All: Show all reports on a single page
Kid's View
When a child is logged in with their read-only account, they will see:
- The chore completion chart (3 Months vs All Time views)
- No buttons to add, edit, or delete chores or reports
This allows kids to see their progress without being able to modify the data.
Tips for Success
- Be consistent: Try to file reports regularly so the chart accurately reflects chore completion patterns
- Use Extra Chores: Don't worry about defining every possible taskāuse "Extra Chores" for one-time or special jobs
- Archive, don't delete: Keep your historical data intact by archiving chores you no longer need instead of deleting them
- Review progress together: Use the chart as a conversation starter to celebrate consistency or identify areas for improvement
